Postcards Carlos Bartual

This month of April are 18 years of the early disappearance of Carlos Bartual Diaz, another English illustrator of military subjects, unjustly forgotten, whose work was mainly in the Department of the Army Military History.

Bartual Captain (1936-1993), professional military armament and Construction Corps - like the Dolphin admired Salas-out very soon for his love of drawing and military history, fields in which, thanks to his fate, explored thoroughly. Studies uniformology and vexicología who attended the Historical Service, made him a regular contributor to the magazine "Military History " with articles that not only put the text, but also illustrated.

But his works not only focused on research for the Center, but with Jose Luis Roman was the official illustrator of the magazine "Model "-publication of the 70 that fans remember most experienced model making, working in other publications such as magazines "Defense " or " Carteya ." Are also worth outlining the series of postcards for "Heliodorus Art Editions and Bibliophile" made, shelled in sets of six plates uniforms " the English troops in the service of empire " (1975) "The English armies in the Napoleonic era" (1976), "the English troops in the second site Gibraltar" (1978) or "Troops in the English Civil War" (1978), among others.

His drawing, clearly marked line, gives preference to display the details of the work uniformológica, without losing the freedom of stroke, although a bit naive on many occasions. In their artwork suggests a taste for the equity of the nineteenth century engravings recalling the aesthetics of the work of Daniel Vierge.

Garate José María Córdoba devotes in his article "Historical Service One" (Military History Journal No. 100 in 2006) these words: "... and then there was the excellent teacher Bartual Carlos Diaz, great restorer and given to sculpture, with irregular virtues of the great artists of the brush and bulk, but also serious historian writing successful "

I would like to thank my friends Fernando González de la Peña, Jesus Pacheco Agustín Gamarra and put me on the trail of this artist, giving me the three almost all of the information poured.
