The Best Albums of the History of Rock History of Rock

This is my humble contribution towards a server considers the best records in rock history, although many will disagree with any or some of them, it becomes very difficult to devalue the quality of the disks will show below, and all social and personal impact that each of them had. It is true that missing a lot of records by name, so over time and with the views to be received, I will form a growing list complete and accurate as possible to everyone's opinion.

The Beatles - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967)

The Beatles: John Lennon (vocals, guitar, keyboard), Paul McCartney (vocals, bass), George Harrison (guitar, vocals), Ringo Starr (vocals, drums).

This album, released in 1967, corresponds to a period of time where the group left the live performances - in August 1966 - as they were weary of them, and they were tired of lacking free time and privacy. As for the idea of \u200b\u200bSgt Pepper ... Sir Paul McCartney commented, "The idea we had taken something we've heard about a tour made by Elvis' Cadillac. "How brilliant!" We think. "Elvis is not on tour, but only sends his Cadillac. Fantastic!".
Since then, the famous colorful history of Sergeant Pepper, Lucy in the sky with diamonds, Mr. Kite and the lovely Rita . The album was the result of experiments to study, and in an age where newspapers did not fail to press: "Where are the Beatles?" "They ran out of ideas?" "The Beatles are finished!" .. to harsh comments ..

The album's central idea was that the Beatles took the role of La banda del Club of Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts, leaving behind rock constraints and transforming the object of worship. In 13 songs push the limits the concept of the rock, adding orchestrations, Indian instruments, recordings played backwards and animal sounds, rock, music hall, ballads, jazz and even Eastern music.

Tracklisting

1 - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (2:04) 2 - With a Little Help from My Friends (2:46) 3 - Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (3:30) 4 - Getting Better (2:49) 5 - Fixing A Hole (2:38) 6 - She's Leaving Home (3:37) 7 - Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite! (2:39) 8 - Within You Without You (*) (5:07) 9 - When I'm Sixty-Four (2:37) 10 - Lovely Rita (2:44) 11 - Good Morning Good Morning (2 : 43) 12 - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise) (1:20) 13 - A Day in the Life (5:33)

All songs written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, except (* ) written by George Harrison. Produced by George Martin. 1967.

The album begins with noise from an expectant public that explodes with the first guitar riffs of the song album's title. The rest of the song is a mixture of guitars, horns and voices of the four Beatles. After the item, without pauses or silences, beginning "With a Little Help from My Friends" sung by drummer Ringo Starr - an ode to friendship with a contagious sense of hope and respite from the powerful guitars of the first song and the psychedelia of the third. Among the most prominent of the disc are:

"Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" by Lennon, with a letter that takes us to a world where anything can happen. It is speculated that his initials - LSD - the drug that match the Beatles ate, although John has denied this, claiming that the title alluded a picture of his son. The psychedelic melody was altered to the extent that you think that each note is at a rate higher or lower than the previous. According to John Lennon the idea of \u200b\u200bthis mythical theme emerged of a drawing Julian made his first child. The boy taught his father a drawing in which a girl smiled and his eyes seemed precious stones, Julian told his father, "Look Dad, is Lucy in the sky with diamonds" in English this would be: "Look Dad, is Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds "

" Getting Better "is another theme that changes basic rock structures to transform them into something new. Arrangements with their particular sound and constant guitar, this song is a song of happiness and hope for change. This title can be seen in the letter, the contrast between the attitudes of Lennon and McCartney. It is said, according to the same Beatles, "Getting Better" was a phrase repeated by Jimmy Nicol, the drummer who once was supplied by Ringo Starr on some tours.

"A Day in the Life", a work of art created by both Lennon and McCartney, an encore based on a collage, made news in a newspaper and their reflections in the nasal voice and dreamy John, allowing him to make a vision special criticism of what is described in the song. All in half fuzzy and blurry, but beautiful and almost acoustic, to be immersed in a slowly rising symphonic sound that rises and rises from the G major chord (which is the Lennon tune) until with the highest notes possible to the chord of E major to open the song written by McCartney.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced? (1967)

The Jimi Hendrix Experience: Jimi Hendrix (guitar, vocals) Noel Redding (bass), Mitch Mitchell (drums).

is the debut album by The Jimi Hendrix Experience (Jimi Hendrix's band), which was released in 1967, and which established Hendrix as one of the most important rock artists of time, thanks to its innovative technology and the use of feedback. It is often considered one of the best and most important albums in rock history.
This album was a huge break in the music of the time. Hendrix surprised tons of guys with the infirm and exorbitant sounds emanating his beloved Stratocaster. Atmospheres

nuanced envelopes and can be seen in songs like "Are you experienced?", From a blues rock beautiful and high quality, also added a considerable amount of funk and soul. The "Hendrix Experience" was showcased in songs like "Foxy Lady" (with all the power in that initial riff), "Can you see me?" And "Fire" (as shocking as short, a classic), but not be genius aside as "Manic depression" or "Red House", not as popular as the first 3, but with the same genius Hedrix checked. Finally, "Are you experienced?" is perhaps the best starting point to learn the music of the sixties, is without doubt a unique classic.

Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV (1971)

Led Zeppelin: Robert Plant (vocals), Jimmy Page (guitar), John Bonham (drums), John Paul Jones (bass, keyboard).

This album is commonly recognized as Untitled and primarily as IV by sheer inertia, published on 8 November 1971, was the LP's best-selling band (currently in the location # 4 best selling album in history according to the RIAA), which highlights its biggest hit, Stairway To Heaven, in addition to classic the band Black Dog, Rock and Roll, Going to California When The Levee Breaks, which highlights the impressive sound and heavy thunder of John Bonham's drums and guitar (Jimmy Page). Jimmy Page, in the press, took the criticism personally from the previous album (Led Zeppelin III, 1970) which accused the group of not more than a commercial setting, which caused his fourth album, edition original had no title or anything that would identify you, except for four strange symbols or runes.

One for each member of the band. The album begins with a real anthem, "Blak Dog", a song full of power, specially prepared to play at concerts for its imposing vivo.Es versions of the purest rock and roll, standing guitar virtuoso and J. Page the brilliant voice of Robert Plant.

In the middle of the record we find the emblematic song of the Rock in general, "Stairway to Heaven", an eight-minute song that begins with a beautiful ballad to be growing gradually to end the characteristic strength. Few doubt that this is perhaps the best song and one of the single most formidable in the history of Rock.

Deep Purple - Made in Japan (1973)

Deep Purple: Rod Evans (vocals), Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), Roger Glover (bass), Jon Lord (keyboards), Ian Paice (drums).

had read wonders of this group, but had to wait to hear with my own ears, I realized that what I was hearing was a gem. Made in Japan is divided into two CDs. The first is a compilation of the highlights of the tour in Japan (15, 16, August 17, 1972, in Osaka and Tokyo). The second disc is comprised of an extension of the first concerts with some encores they played forever in their actions (Black Nigth, Speed \u200b\u200bKing and Lucille), and the rest of the other songs, the same as the first but in the studio and remastered, serving as a demonstration of the quality of the group and as proof that their concerts were quite faithful to the original sound. There are moments on this record that it does not pass ever in the history of Rock, this album is a glorious shows the power of Deep Purple at the height of his creativity, is one of the most honest live recordings that have never (what is in the disk is that concerts could be heard, no retouching of study or pre-recorded applause.)

The sound of the guitar R. Blackmore in Highway Star, is perfect, his guitar is clean without artifice, directly from the amplifier, and it sounds very very Blackmore ...

The second song "Child in time", I was dazzled by its simplicity, its great tranquility and peace from the start, and the ability to go up gradually to reach the highest point and start from scratch without note.

From "Smoke on the Water" does not need to say anything, because it is world famous, and perhaps that is why I dislike the whole disc. The other songs are all from the album "Machine Head", although shown here much longer, allowing all components to develop alone regardless of the minutes.

The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers (1971)

The Rolling Stones: Mick Jagger (vocals, guitar, harmonica), Keith Richards (guitar, vocals), Mick Taylor (guitar), Bill Wyman (bass, keyboards), Charlie Watts (drums).

Sticky Fingers is the second of the work of the Rolling Stones produced by Jimmy Miller and the first with the full participation of Mick Taylor as a member of the group, as in Let It Bleed (his last album study) was only present in some songs. It was also the first album released by the group's label, Rolling Stones Records. Other highlights are that appears on its cover design was subsequently changed to the symbol of the Stones.

History

The album recording sessions began in the winter of 1970 in Stragroves the Jagger cottage near Newbury (Berkshire), also used some previously recorded material in the Muscle Shoals Studios in Alabama in December 1969. During these first sessions, also outlined some issues of their next album, Exile on Main St., as was the case of Tumbling Dice. The recording will continue throughout the year in Stargroves and at Olympic Studios and ending in early 1971.

The group's contract with Decca Records, his first album, completed in 1970. With this, the group hoped to enjoy absolute freedom to develop their work, both as concerned the content of the letters and the design of the covers (for example, the company had censored the cover ready to Beggars Banquet, which was graffiti in a toilet filled with insults). As the group still owed him a final single to the label, decided to send a song called Cocksucker Blues, with a letter that was unprintable obscene. Instead, the company decided to release Street Fighting Man, a topic that was already two years old. However, the expiration of this contract the group had not issued a new start, which occurred when they discovered that carelessly had signed the transfer of all his work from the sixties to which was soon to become his former manager, Allen Klein . For this reason, all records from this period have been published since then the company founded by Klein, ABKCO Records. The album was preceded by the publication on April 16, 1971 the first single, Brown Sugar, held at the group's new label, Rolling Stones Records.
The single reached number 1 in the U.S. and number 2 in England. In the United States also issued a second single consists of Wild Horses and Sway, getting the top spot on both sides of the Atlantic.

Chart Support

On the album cover, this was done from a design by artist Andy Warhol pop art, which was formed by a pair of jeans with a zipper really open. This cover was censored in Spain and replaced by another in which fingers went inside a tin of treacle. This played in literalness latest disc title: Sticky Fingers means in Castilian "sticky fingers." In 2003, the U.S. channel VH1 chose the original album cover as the first of its list of the top fifty covers. The album also made its appearance, as mentioned above, the logo of the Stones, tongue and lips designed by Mick Jagger and the designer John Pashe.La inspiration for the design came from the Hindu goddess Kali.

Tracklisting

1 - Brown Sugar (3:50) 2 - Sway (3:52) 3 - Wild Horses (5:44) 4 - Can not You Hear Me Knocking (7:15) 5 - You Gotta Move (2:34) 6 - Bitch (3:37) 7 - I Got The Blues (3:54) 8 - Sister Morphine (5:34) 9 - Dead Flowers (4:05) 10 - Moonlight Mile (5:56).

Brown Sugar, was the most successful song on the album. It was composed mainly of Jagger, during filming in Australia in the film Ned Kelly.

His point was controversial and ambiguous, admitting two possible interpretations: that the song and the title referring to a girl of color or heroin (Brown Sugar means "brown sugar" in Castilian). Precisely the allusions to drugs were constant throughout the disc and came at a time when problems were compounded addiction Keith Richards. As for other top songs, Sway, like Moonlight Mile, had to end with string arrangements by Paul Buckmaster, who worked regularly for Elton John. Wild Horses was, for its part, an emotional ballad with influences of country music.

The music was composed by Richards, while the letter was provided by Jagger. This song has seen many versions of other bands and artists like Dave Matthews, Garbage or Guns N'Roses. The song, Can You Hear Me Knocking showed the skills of new guitarist, Mick Taylor. Faced with the versatility of his predecessor, Brian Jones, who was able to play an important number of instruments, Taylor, was featured as a soloist and his presence reinforced the blues tone of the work of the Stones in the first half of the seventies . Among other songs, lyrics by Sister Morphine The intensity narrates the agony of a man in the hospital because of an overdose, and his desire to get morphine. Sister Morphine was banned in Spain and replaced by the version of Let It Rock. Dead Flowers was another example of a genre widely cultivated by the group: the parody of country music.

Guns and Roses - Appetite for Destruction (1987)

Guns and Roses: Axl Rose (vocals), Slash (guitar), Duff McKagan (bass), Izzy Stradlin (guitar) Steven Adler (drums).

is the best selling debut album in history. In the U.S. alone sold nearly 15 million copies. This was a year after launch, as in the first year had sold only 500 thousand copies in 1987. Launched on 21 July 1987, the album looked back and forth: punk sound raw and painful art their lyrics tended a bridge between the commercial rock of the 80's and alternative music of the decade to come.

This album was a revolution for the hard rock in the late 80's, was a hard dirty, dangerous and corrosive released in a period not very good for the genre. Therefore, the guns were seen themselves as responsible for reviving the defunct rebel spirit of rock ..

surface, Guns N 'Roses may appear to be a group that did not proclaim anything new, sex, alcohol, drugs and rock and roll, but there is some unpleasant aroma in their songs, largely because that Axl Rose is not too much fun in the urban environment of Los Angeles and its rooms full of heavy metal, cheap women, drink and crime bringing an atmosphere surrounded by pessimism and aggression disgustingly amazing themed as "welcome to the jungle" "Mr Brownstone", "Rocket Queen", "Paradise City".

However, songs like "Sweet Child o Mine", "Think About You", you can see a much more sweet and melancholy, showing that this cd in their lyrics also contain your sensitive side.
But the letters that Axl spits loudly, would not be effective without the guitar interplay between Slash and Izzy Stradlind, ripping riffs and solos better than any band since Rolling Stones. Slash's solos were unable to be as awesome without the great support Izzy guitar, listening to the melodies as catchy as playing a blessing.

For disk diffusion, first MTV refused to show videos of the band, because the original album cover, based on a painting by Robert Williams, showed a robot rapist, which was considered offensive to television network.

The band then change the cover, and put the original in the album, now showing a crucifix with skulls of the five members of the band. This was not enough for MTV, and the chain continued its blockade. Finally, David Geffen, former president of Geffen Records (record label at the time representing the Guns), MTV called and asked to show the video for "Welcome to the Jungle." MTV agreed to show it only once at 2 am. After that, MTV was flooded with orders for the video and the song became the most requested in the chain in 24 hours.

The album as a body is incredible, formidable, which had a "desire to destroy" behind the image or status he had lost the hard rock of that time. "Appetite for Destruction" is considered one of the most important albums of the metal in the decade of 80, either by the great recognition of their songs (which have influenced the music scene of the popular music of the USA) and thus becoming an invaluable record in terms of its musical aspects.

Nirvana - Nevermind (1991)

Nirvana: Kurt Cobain (vocals, guitar) Chris Novoselic (bass, vocals), David Grohl (drums, vocals).

Kurt: "The record entitled 'Nevermind' because many people prefer to forget or say does not matter before catching a spray paint or form a band "(Kurt, New Musical Express, September 1991).

precipitously released Nevermind Nirvana from relative obscurity in which was at the heights of critical and commercial success of virtually overnight. The album radically altered the musical landscape, shifting public attention from the hair metal 80's grunge movement based in Seattle, Washington, who dominated the first years of the 90. From here lies the great importance of this record and as a result of its success opened the door to other Seattle-area bands as Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains. It is worth mentioning that Nirvana did not invent grunge, but that achievement out of the small circle that had been deployed, and expand it worldwide. The main reasons for the high impact caused by "Nevermind", are to be found in the unquestionable perfection selected topic as the first single "Smell Like Teen Spirit", as appropriate and inspired video directed by Sam Bayer, tirelessly exposed through on MTV.

This first single became a rallying cry against apathy of our generation. Emerged LP for a modest budget, becoming an anthem text characterized as cynical and endowed with numerous contradictions.
The texts of the songs reflect the overall personality of Kurt Cobain devious and stubborn pessimism, which contrasts strongly with the perfection attained Nevermind fascinating as global entity. The sound of the album the spontaneous and powered by a flawless production that leaves nothing to chance, highlighted by the powerful arrangements of distorted guitars, drums destructive, low rumbling and chaotic voice of the band in an album designed for a diverse audience and placing a banner in the rock music of the 90.

The album cover featured a naked baby swimming after a ticket on a fishing hook. According to Cobain, he conceived the idea while watching a television program on water births with drummer Dave Grohl. The hook and the bill also were his ideas, and were imposed primarily by the singer. The representative label of Nirvana (Geffen rocords) prepared an alternate cover without the penis, fearing to offend some people, but canceled those plans when Cobain made it clear that the only compromise he would accept a stamp would then cover the penis, accusing any she was offended to be a "pedophile."
